Niko's Grill Biscuits and Gravy

Happy fall y'all!  I have taken the summer off from blogging because Florida summer is long and brutal and full of hurricanes. We have once again survived the challenge and are back to review some B&G with many posts on the back burner waiting to be written and shared with our hungry readers. For this Blogscuits episode, Mom, T, and I visited Niko's Grill in Hudson.

While we have many options for biscuits and gravy in the upper Tampa Bay area, I always do meticulous research to make sure everyone is likely to enjoy their breakfast experience. Upon reading some of their 4.5 star Google reviews, my mom and I decided to give Niko's a try on a Saturday morning in May.

The place:

Niko's Grill- Hudson, FL.

Niko's is a family run restaurant in a small shopping center about 10 minutes away from my parents' house. From what I've found on the internet, it looks like Niko's has been in business since at least 2010. We decided to meet my mom there at 8 AM, and actually arrived a few minutes before her. The parking lot is somewhat small but it was easy to find a spot.

The inside of the restaurant has a beachy theme which I always thoroughly enjoy, even though I much prefer pools to the beach. But there's something about a nautical aquamarine motif that makes me feel relaxed.

I also have a thing for giant wooden utensils.

Placemats with Florida factoids!

We were seated in the very front by the window. The music was a little loud considering it was so early but it was a really good radio station and we were enjoying the tunes. Our waitress came to take our order within a few minutes.

The menu:

A very Florida menu.

My mom ordered the Greek omelette, I ordered scrambled eggs, toast, and hash browns, and T of course ordered Biscuits and Gravy with a side of bacon. She also ordered an iced coffee.

While we waited we talked and vibed to the radio station which if I remember correctly was playing a lot of 80s songs. The food didn't take long to arrive.

The verdict:

As soon as T started into her B&G, she was exclaiming about how fluffy the biscuits were. She said they were baked soft and "floury", and not overcooked in any way. The biscuits had a mushy consistency which she liked, and she wondered if they were made in house because they had a really good flavor and tasted homemade.

The flavor of the gravy was really good and seasoned well with large chunks of sausage. She liked that the sausage chunks were big because some places make them very small and she likes to taste it and notice that it's there. She said there was something sweet in the gravy that made it really stand out.

She noted that the serving size was pretty big (she got the full order of B&G) and said there was a lot of gravy.

T also enjoyed her bacon, saying it was thin and crispy.

Overall, T rated her Niko's Biscuits and Gravy as an 8/10.

T ate most of her plate, despite claiming she wasn't even hungry. She really enjoyed the B&G because they were on the sweeter side and she "likes sweet things". She appreciated the homemade impression the biscuits gave and loved the size of the sausage pieces. She applauded the quality of the food and said everything tasted fresh. She gave her iced coffee a good review as well.

My breakfast was good and as always I loved my toast and potatoes. Mom and I agreed that our potatoes and her tomatoes all tasted fresh.

Mom liked her coffee as well and said her Greek omelette was good and had a lot of stuff in it. She said they visited again after this and my dad liked his Greek omelette too.

Conclusion:

Niko's has fresh food, good service, and a pleasant atmosphere. They had one of the highest rated B&G that T has tried so far, tying only with the B&G she got from the Broken Yolk.

I made a note that the bathroom looked like a time machine as it was a bit dated and worn, but it was clean.

When my mom and dad revisited for breakfast at a later date, my mom didn't like the wrap she got as much as she liked her Greek omelette. However, T and I would definitely return for breakfast in the future.
